2009/2010 ANNUAL REPORT:

This Section conducted a survey to determine areas of interest to its members, and, as a result, instituted a series of low-cost, CLE Mini-Programs. It held its first Mini- Program, "Representing the Government – Privilege and Ethics Issues", in March, followed by "Adopting Regulations the Right Way" in April, with additional Mini-Programs in development. The Section, in response to the results of the survey, now offers Legislative Updates on bills of interest to state and local governments during the legislative session. It is currently planning a social event for its members, to allow for networking and discussion.

PURPOSES

The purposes of the Section are to provide a common meeting ground and impartial forum for those members of the Bar who are engaged in dealing with problems of state and local government in any capacity, whether as attorneys for units of state, county or municipal government, as attorneys in private practice, as law teachers, as students, or otherwise; to further a better understanding of the law relating to municipal corporations and other public bodies through the holding of meetings, the making of studies, surveys and analyses, and the dissemination of current information concerning legislation and judicial decisions; to formulate and submit to the members of the Section and the Association, such reports and recommendations as may be deemed useful to the profession and advisable in the public interest; and to further the public interest as the prime factor in the development of state and local government law.
